Company ProfileWest
Coast Land Clearing is engaged in the construction
industry as a subsidiary of the D. Thomas Corporation and provides services
to hundreds of customers including municipalities, developers, general contractors and
facility owners throughout California. The
services include demolition and site clearing, interior demolition, site grading,
excavating, recycling, and equipment rental. In
1963, John C. Dodd, a General Contractor, saw the demand for a reliable demolition
contractor in the Long Beach area. After the
purchase of a loader and a truck, it did not take long for the John Dodd Company to become a force in the
Southern California demolition industry. Over
the next decade the company grew to own several loaders and a half- dozen demolition
trucks, as well as assembling a team of fifteen to twenty employees. In 1978, Dave Thomas, who had been working for the company from its inception, took over the day-to-day operations as Vice President and General Manager. During the 1980’s, he helped catapult the John Dodd Company to become one of the elite demolition contractors in the area. After
attending college, Dave’s two sons, Rob and Brian, joined the management team in 1985
and 1991, respectively. With this addition,
came the spirit of diversification. In 1987,
Rob Thomas helped start a grading division of John Dodd Company called J.D.S. Excavating & Grading. By branching off to include site grading, the
company could offer its clients a more complete package of services by delivering sites
that are ready for construction. Together,
the companies achieved great success and growth, with an expanding clientele base and over
thirty employees. In
1992, after twenty-nine years of leveling buildings, John Dodd “the friendly home
wrecker” retired. The company assets
were aquired by Dave Thomas, who started West Coast
Land Clearing. The new company's image quickly became synonymous with the
quality and reliability that made the John Dodd Company so successful for so long.
